“Swept into Forgotten Waters” (2024)

As time advances, the number of living survivors diminishes. In this artwork, bubbles represent the delicate nature of memory, easily susceptible to fading away. The hands reaching out from within the bubbles signify the survivors’ plea to be remembered, their stories heard, and their experiences acknowledged. These hands, expressive and almost grasping at the viewer, emphasize the urgency to retain these memories in the face of time and the ever-present threat of Holocaust denial.

The faces within the bubbles, marked by age and emotion, are the survivors themselves. Their expressions convey a deep sense of sorrow, resilience, and the weight of their lived experiences. By capturing these faces emerging from the bubbles, the painting highlights the personal and individual narratives that are at risk of being lost. This visual metaphor calls on viewers to actively remember and protect the legacy of Holocaust survivors, ensuring their stories continue to be told and never forgotten.
